| | I have fallen to the dark side. I bought a 2000 point Chaos army. I will post some pictures when I have mustered my nefarious men of war!!! So far, I have clipped and glued 2 regiments... This might take a while... | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| In response to the recent news of cuts and a bleak future for LJ, I went and looked at wordpress, and I like it a lot more. So, I've migrated there. The only problem with it is the LJ export DOES NOT get responses to your posts. The annoyance is that you also have to export one month at a time. This is a limitation of LJ, though. So, that's where I'll be if you want to read about me.

| So, when we got up this morning, we noticed poop on the floor and went looking for Acey. As it turned out, she was laying rather comatose in a closet. She was rushed to a Vet where we were informed she had a rare disease that affects 5% of all cats called Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus (FIPV). FIP, no V, is commonly found in cats, almost 80% of them. The Virus part is the lethal part and is a mutation of this common virus is almost always fatal. We had to put her down today. I will miss you, Acey. We loved you.

| So, I'm slow to post... sue me. Things happen. Things that prevent me from getting things done. Most of these things are games, of course. Amy got me a grip of media, including Valkyria for XMas. It thoroughly rocks. I'm a suck for cell shading and WW2 media. I have to go and see Valkyrie (no relation) as well, even if it does have Tom Cruise in it. I seem to have things thing for WW2 flicks. I love it. The story is gritty and compelling, the action is intense; people die. There is a winged pig, but I'll excuse it.
I also go "Dr. Horrible Sing-along blog" which rocks. Thanks, Amy. She also got me "Tropic Thunder" on Blue-ray, so that should rock. I've become obsessed with definition. I liked it before, but I've become obsessed now. My Netflix is now officially Blue-ray even. The major flaw I've seen in HD, however, is that Alton Brown is aging. And it REALLY shows in HD.
Let's see... I got stuck in Portland. That wasn't as much fun as I'd hoped. Being trapped with the Sister-in-law (not nearly as bad as Andy's entrapment) was not my idea of holiday bliss. But the Storm Large concert was the BOMB. I even got to bid on a picture of her nude! How awesome is that?? I lost though. Oh well. Her crazy stalker won it instead. I bet she wishes I had instead.
That's all for now. It was a good XMas, over all. Also, I think I got the Season 1 of Heroes HD set for XMas from Nick and Fyr! Thanks guys! Unless you want them back... In that case, you suck. Now I'm off to play some Racquetball with Amy. | comments: Leave a comment |
| He is just so spot on with these things...

In other news, Amy and I finished up Guitar Hero Worldtour last night. Boy, that was short. And there's really no alternate content. No other ways to play... Just the sets straight through. I mean, we can play any of the songs we want now... I guess we can work on harder difficulties. But, it's like doing quests and no leveling. No sense of achievement. Oh well... D&D last night went well. I nearly took out the whole party with one well placed blast spell. They pulled through tho. Only 3 rooms till oblivion!
Adendum...

| So, I had session number 8 last night of my D&D chronicle. It went pretty damned well, I think. I got to: pounce a player with a jumping spider, push a player into a 30 foot deep pit with two hobgoblins at the bottom, and my party survived. I'm so proud of them. They really had to go all out on this one, too. I'm really digging the Keep on Shadowfell.
In other news, moving this weekend. Yay bigger apartment. Also, I'm moving this weekend. Boo moving. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

| | So, I find myself in a weird place on a project at work. I'm working on this project to virtualize all of the infrastructure servers for the office. There are 8 in the first round, and 10 in the second. The problem I'm running into is that the project was started nearly 2 years ago by someone else. Now, that's not that big a deal, and definitely not that unusual. But, at the time the company bought some software from VMWare for managing the virtual servers that should be great. The problem is, now it's 2 years old and there's no support on it. So, the version of the Virtual Server host has to be 1.0. It's now 4 revisions later, at 2.2. The management software they bought will only work with 1.0. It cost around 10 grand. Obviously, an investment was made in this software, so it should be used. However, all the awesome tools for virtualizing a server right onto your host doesn't work with anything older than Version 2.0. So, either I work way more and use the old management software, or I say screw it and use the new host and converters, but lose out on the management software. Both choices suck. Maybe I should make someone higher up than me make the choice.... Anyway, that's my ramblings for the day. I'm going to try and use my LJ as more of a Journal than a place to post neato things. I know. I've said it before. Deal with it. | comments: Leave a comment |
| | So, this game is the bomb. Seriously. It's a great time. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who can get their paws on it. The game, like other recent stand outs, gets exponentially more fun with more people playing. Obviously, it's a horror game. So, the real appeal is the fact that it scares the crap out of you. You are constantly on guard. And, you can play Versus mode AS THE ZOMBIES! How cool is that!? Sure, you can only play that on two of the levels, but who cares? Still the coolest mode I have seen in a game. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

| | So, Amy took me to GWAR last night. As usual, they kicked much ass. My ears are still ringing. They ended up killing Obama, Clinton, and McCain in a battle royal to see who would be supreme ruler of the world. And they ripped a baby in half... Could they be a little more over-the-top? Every other slander was gay related. Odd to do when you're performing in San Francisco. Half the audiance was butch chicks! There was also one of the most intense mosh pits I have seen in all my concert going days. I saw a few people erupt with blood. Nicely done, GWAR. When you're only goal is to offend everyone, they get the job done. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| | So, as some of you may have read, Amy bought a PS3 and got me a copy of Assassins Creed. It rocks the shit, so far. I'm really digging the mythic assassin. The game is just plain fun to play. You don't have to time your jumps perfectly to look cool, it handles it for you. Combat is fun and takes some thought. I totally dig it. | comments: Leave a comment |

| So, on a whim, I went to Fry's today with Chris and Amy during lunch to kill some time. We happened upon a demo for Guitar Hero: World Tour. Played for a few songs and had some interesting notes.
First: Dificulty is whack. Beginner, you just do timing for the song. Guitar/Bass you just hit the strum bar at the right time. The entire song is just strumming. No frets at all. Huh? Easy is like playing a different game from that. This was notes from watching someone who hadn't played either GH or RB before, so it was interesting. Drums was just the kick drum. No pads in the entire song. That's about worthless. Easy kicked it up to medium in RB. Their levels are just too far off from each other still.
Drum Kit: This thing ROCKS compared to the RB set. Two cymbols raised and placed in a logical formation. I really dug it. Much more intuitive. It looks a little hoaky with these PVC pipes structure, but I'll excuse it. I like it better than the RB look still. While it works with RB2, it sounds like it's not the best. Lacking the second note set, RB only uses the left symbol. This means that you are spending most of your time turned two the Red and Yellow (in line with each other) and it's hard to come back to the other side of the drum set to hit Blue and Green. The solution I can see myself shelling out for in replacing my RB kit is the $300 Ion Drum Rocker set. It works well with both games and I COULD use it as a stand alone drum kit some day. So, I will just have to save up some money.
Guitar: I like the new controller. It looks nicer, felt better (I didn't play it though) with a longer strum bar. I like that the overdrive is now a palm button rather than lifting the guitar. I might have to purchase one. And the whole slide thing on the neck seems cool, but I didn't get to try it. I might have to go back next week and play guitar to check this thing out more.
Anyway, that's my small review.
In other news, tonight Amy and I are picking up our new cat. That should be fun. Last night we went to a small play house here in Sac for their Third Stage (the alternative stuff) performance of the Seafarer. Really interesting play. It revolves around this Irish guy who is playing a game of poker with The Devil for his soul on Christmas Eve. I wont say more than that, but it was really well done and a super cool story to boot.
Tomorrow night, we are going to see Ingrid Michaelson at a little bar here in Sac. That should be really cool.

| | It's funny how you don't realize you miss something so simple till you hear it again. Today has been an unusually rainy day here in Sacramento. Been coming down steady all day and I've been listening to it for a while now. It's very soothing to me and I hadn't realized how much I missed the sound and smell of it since I've been here. This is really the first rain I've seen in... 8 months. Scary. | comments: Leave a comment |
| So, Amy finished up the Impossible Vocal Challenge on both of our characters. The female version is much better...
I finished up the Impossible Bass Challenge and all I got was a pair of tighty whiteys and some tattoos!

| | So, I'm not usually a Bill Maher, but I had to go see this after his interview with John Stewart. It was simultaneously hilarious, disturbing, and scary. I'd love to hear what others, especially you Nick, think of it. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| So, I guess I have now officially joined the ranks of the DM. Last night I ran the first session of Shadowfell Keep. It went pretty well. Everyone had fun and I almost killed the fighter. He took it well though. And, the players got to gun down a fleeing enemy that had surrendered and was told to leave. So, I got them to do something slightly evil. Woot!!!
It was actually really fun to run the game. I had a good time, and I really like the way the encounters flow in 4th edition. We have 4 players at the table, and one remote player who we connect to with Skype using a webcam so he can see the battlemat and then we have a mic/speakers to communicate with him. I have to say that Skype worked awesomely. I was half expecting disaster and to have to drop the remote player, but you could barely tell he was 3000 miles away. Luckily, he's also my most experience player, so he needs no hand holding for rules and such. Makes it much easier. Of course, this has me thinking that it would be awesome to do this with some of my past D&D compadres. I think my brother would love to get in on a game. Andy? Any interest in playing some D&D ? Yes, it would be 4th Ed. Bite me.
In other news, next weekend is Blizzcon! Woot! Anyone want to pay me $300 for my Polar Bear/Murloc mount? I need to buy this drum set for Rockband.
